About B&T MacFarlane
B&T MacFarlane was founded by R.B. (Bruce) MacFarlane on the principle of always providing exceptional products and service to our valued Ottawa customers. Originally located on Bruce’s 200-acre farm on Capilino Drive in the Township of Nepean, B&T MacFarlane started under the name “MacFarlane Farm Supplies” as a Massey Harris dealership, selling and servicing MF AG and MF light industrial equipment. R.B.’s (Bruce) son Terry began working at the family business at an early age after school and on weekends – a part-time job that would become a lifetime passion.
In 1972, the company needed to expand its facilities, so it moved down Merivale Road to our current location at 45 Slack Road. It was at this time that we changed our name to B&T MacFarlane Ottawa Limited. At the same time as our expansion and name change, B&T MacFarlane also began selling the Kubota tractor, which has since become our largest business line. We are very proud to say that we are one of the original Canadian dealers of Kubota products.
Four Generations of Exceptional Service
As the City of Ottawa expanded and grew around us, B&T MacFarlane changed from pursuing the agricultural market to concentrating more on construction and landscaping equipment. During this transition through the 70s and 80s, B&T MacFarlane also worked with the CIDA and other government agencies, exporting Massey Ferguson tractors all over the world.
In 1987, Terry officially took over the business from his father, R.B. (Bruce). Continuing in the MacFarlane family business were Terry’s sons Bruce and Chris who started at different times in the 1980s. Bruce started part-time in 1982 at age 15. He then started working full-time with the company in 1990 after completing a degree in Economics from Carleton University. Chris started full-time in 1987, and currently works in our sales and service department.
Both Bruce and Chris are proud to have their children now working in the family business. Bruce's son Jack started in 2018 in the parts department part-time and is now a full-time Salesperson. Chris's son Terry started in 2018 in the parts department and is now a full-time Parts Specialist. Chris's daughter, Tori also joined in 2021 and is now a full time Parts Specialist.
B&T MacFarlane currently employs more than forty people, some of whom have been with the company for over 30 years.
